Cooking

Anyone may learn the cooking trade skill. If you are a resident of a city or commune, you will automatically be a member of the cooking cartel in that location and able to use the unique recipes of that cartel. Generally, as your skill in cooking increases, you will be able to create more complex and tasty meals. Eventually, you'll be able to infuse foods with a variety of beneficial effects, or even poison food. Ultimately, you will be able to host a hero fete, the ultimate in gourmet celebrations. You may only cook in kitchens with a oven. To light an oven, you need to first put a piece of coal in the oven and then FIRE OVEN.

Tasting

Syntax:

TASTE <food>

As your skill in cooking improves, your taste buds will acquire greater and greater skill to determine the quality and nutritional value of food. You will also acquire the ability to discern if food is infused with poisons or potions.

Baking

Syntax:

BAKE <recipe number>

You must be in a proper kitchen to bake simple breads and muffins.

Brews

Syntax:

BREW <recipe number> [INTO <container>]

Brew up ales and beer. You must be in a proper kitchen and have an empty bottle in your inventory. To fill individual glasses with your brews, set the glass on the ground and POUR <brew> INTO GLASS.

Additional Notes:

Though you have to be in the room with the oven, it doesn't need to be fired up.

Soup

Syntax:

COOK <recipe number>

You must be in a proper kitchen to cook soups.

Sleep

Syntax:

INFUSE <soup> WITH SLEEP

You may infuse soups to make those who eat it fall sound asleep. You must have a vial of morphite with at least 5 doses.

Dishes

Syntax:

COOK <recipe number>

You must be in a proper kitchen to cook basic dishes.

Botulism

Syntax:

INFUSE <dish> WITH BOTULISM

You may infuse dishes to give botulism. You must have a vial of botulinum with at least 5 doses.

Fortify

Syntax:

FORTIFY <food>

You can fortify food and increase its nutrition. You must have some flax commodities.

Pastries

Syntax:

BAKE <recipe number>

You must be in a proper kitchen to bake mouth-watering pastries.

Feed

Syntax:

COOK FEED <MEAT|GRAIN|FISH|VEGETABLES|EGGS|FRUIT>

Using 3 food commodities, you may cook up a bag of food which certain mounts may find delicious and, more importantly, nutritious.

Spirits

Syntax:

DISTILL <recipe number> [INTO <container>]

You may distill alcoholic spirits in your kitchen. You must have an empty bottle in your inventory. To fill individual glasses with your liquor, set the glass on the ground and POUR <spirit> INTO GLASS.

Portions

You have honed your cooking skills to the point where there is little waste and you can use your ingredients with such economy that you may double the portions of the food you create. Very rarely, you will even be able to triple the number of portions. This has no effect upon liquids like ale, spirits or wine.

Cakes

Syntax:

BAKE <recipe number>

You must be in a proper kitchen to bake elaborate cakes.

Piping

Syntax:

PIPE <cake> <message>

You can pipe words onto cakes with frosting.

Preserve

Syntax:

PRESERVE <food>

Wrapping your food in a colewort leaf in a special manner will preserve it against spoilage for longer than it might otherwise. You must know how to prepare the food in order to preserve it.

Love

Syntax:

INFUSE <cake> WITH LOVE

You may infuse cakes to make others fall in love. You must have a love potion with at least 5 doses.

Wine

Syntax:

MULL <recipe number> [INTO <container>]

Mull fine wines. You must be in a proper kitchen and have an empty bottle in your inventory. To fill individual glasses with your wine, set the glass on the ground and POUR <wine> INTO GLASS.

Cuisine

Syntax:

COOK <recipe number>

You must be in a proper kitchen to cook haute cuisine.

Wafer

Syntax:

BAKE WAFER

By turning several healing herbs into a fine powder, you can create a batch of wafers that cure many internal ailments.

Commodities: yarrow 1 kombu 1 calamus 1 colewort 1 myrtle 1 (makes 5)

Miniatures

Syntax:

COOK MINIATURE MEAL

You must be in a proper kitchen to cook miniature meals. It will take 1 grain and 1 fruit.

Speed

Syntax:

INFUSE <cuisine> WITH SPEED

You may infuse cuisine to increase dexterity. You must have a quicksilver potion with at least 5 doses.

Delicacies

Syntax:

COOK <recipe number>

You must be in a proper kitchen to cook delicacies.

Death

Syntax:

INFUSE <delicacy> WITH DEATH

You may poison delicacies to cause death. You must have a vial of crotamine with at least 5 doses.

Gourmet

Syntax:

COOK <recipe number>

You must be in a proper kitchen to cook gourmet dishes.

Constitution

Syntax:

INFUSE <gourmet> WITH CONSTITUTION

You may infuse gourmet food to enhance constitution. You must have a vial of allheale with at least 5 doses.

Constructs

Syntax:

BREW SLURRY

empty keg fish 50 egg 50

You can create a nutrient bath that feeds constructs and collossi, increasing their health. This can be done once a month.

Dietician

You have mastered your control of your diet to such an incredible degree that your need for food is lessened, and attacks that prey upon your nutrition will be only half as effective.

HeroFete

Syntax:

HEROFETE

This banquet is only held to celebrate the lives of great heroes. There must be at least 10 people in attendance, and the cook must have more than enough food to allow everyone a sumptuous feast. After the herofete, all in attendance will be under a variety of blessings.

Additional Notes:

An artisan's banquet table and chairs will reduce the number of people and amount of food required.
