Gnomeweapon

Revision as of 06:23, 3 August 2022 by Hinic (talk | contribs) (→‎Gearboxes: Added the missing descriptions and changed them to use <tt> tag.)

Gnomeweapons are artifacts that provide a hunting attack that can only be used against non-player denizens. While the damage of these weapons is not quite as high as some other artifact types (namely the Artifact Whips or Wonderwand), they have the unique ability to be upgradeable with up to nine gearboxes which will split the damage of the attack into equal portions. This means that a gnome weapon with nine gearboxes attached will hit the target ten times, each hit having its own critical roll and potential to splash onto the next denizen in the room if the first has been killed.

Mechanics

By default, all gnomeweapons will have a type of 'unblockable' only and offer a base damage amount of 925, but can be enhanced up to nine times with gearboxes that increase the total damage by 25 and add one equal split into a new damage type. (Source: Forum comment) Multiple gearboxes of the same type can be attached to the same weapon.

For example, a fountain pen with both an excorable and divinus gearbox attached would do 325 unblockable damage in one hit, then 325 excorable damage in a second hit, then 325 divinus damage in a third hit. There is only one attack message shown, followed by any number of critical rolls, such as below.

With a flourish of your arm, you point a mechanical fountain pen away from you, ready to strike.
A stream of ink imbued with bursts of steam, waves of darkness, and beams of holy light sprays from a mechanical fountain pen and covers an aetheretic slivven.

A mechanical parasol 962 The panels of this mechanical parasol alternate between black and brown fabric, and are lined with an elegant black ribbon. They curve upwards into a dramatic elongated point which is reinforced with a long black metal top. The handle ends in a round curve, allowing the wielder a steady grip. Upon the handle a small crank has been affixed. You turn a crank on the handle of $WEAPON$, and the ribs flare open as the umbrella spins rapidly.\n$WEAPON$ coughs up $TYPES$ that shoot at $=(target$).\n $+(caster$) turns a crank on the handle of $WEAPON$, and the ribs flare open as the umbrella spins rapidly.\n$WEAPON$ coughs up $TYPES$ that shoot at $=(target$).\n
A mechanical cane 963 This mechanical cane has been assembled from various pieces of copper and lead pipes joined by nuts. At the top a horizontal machinery handle has been set into a three-way pipe, allowing one to hold onto and rest their weight upon. Crowning the cane is a pressure meter, complete with a tube running down and attaching onto the pipe work. You press a button at the end of the handle and a hiss of steam announces the buildup of hydraulic pressure within $WEAPON$.\n$WEAPON$ gusts out $TYPES$ that strikes $=(target$).\n $+(caster$) presses a button at the end of the handle and a hiss of steam announces the buildup of hydraulic pressure within $WEAPON$.\n$WEAPON$ gusts out $TYPES$ that strikes $=(target$).\n
A mechanical cat 964 This mechanical feline looks alike to its biological kin, except it has been put together from various metal parts. Its body is a large solid sphere, while the head is a similar smaller sphere. The four limbs have been crafted from tightly wound copper wire coils, ending in a loop where the paws would be. The wire also runs in a frame around the body and head, keeping them in place. Two prominent metal ears sit atop the head, and a pair of remarkably lifelike eyes stare out at you. Fine wire has been used to give the feline a set of long whiskers. A long tail made from a flat metal band completes the cat, ending in an upturned curl.
A mechanical dog 965 This mechanical canine resembles a small dog, except its made up entirely from gears in various sizes and shapes. All around the contours of its body, head, paws and tail are interlocking toothed wheels which are set upon invisible axis that run through the inside, unable to move but holding firmly together. A pair of floppy ears has been crafted from sheet metal and a set of remarkably lifelike eyes adorns its face. Fine wire forms its whiskers that are set upon the muzzle.
A mechanical spider 966 This large eight-legged spider has been put together from various scrap parts. Each leg consists of four thin metal bars held together by movable hinges. The central body is made up of tubes that have been welded together, the front holes looking like a multitude of eyes. Ingeniously, the rear body is a round light bulb screwed into a socket that connect to the central body. You press against the belly of $WEAPON$ and the lightbulb on its rear powers on.\nWebbing filled with $TYPES$ spits from $WEAPON$ and covers $=(target$).\n $+(caster$) presses against the belly of $WEAPON$ and the lightbulb on its rear powers on.\nWebbing filled with $TYPES$ spits from $WEAPON$ and covers $=(target$).\n
Mechanical lace gloves 967 Made mostly from intricate black lace, these gloves cover the hands and closely envelop the lower arms of the wearer. They are fingerless, with the front part being crafted out of leather with holes for each finger to go through. This allows the wearer to easily grip and manipulate things with little to no obstruction. Upon the top of the gloves sit decorative gears and cogs in brass and bare metal, and the right glove also carries a series of clockwork mechanisms to resemble a timepiece. Folding your hands together, the timepiece on $WEAPON$ opens up and a small pistol appears.\nA bullet wrapped in $TYPES$ shoots from $WEAPON$ and hits $=(target$).\n $+(caster$) folds $=(his$) hands together, causing the timepiece on $WEAPON$ to open up and a small pistol appears.\nA bullet wrapped in $TYPES$ shoots from $WEAPON$ and hits $=(target$).\n
A mechanical fountain pen 968 This fountain pen has a silver point that has been engraved with a stylish pattern. The body of the pen is made of brass and has a cut-out gear and cog pattern. On the inside a glass tube is visible, allowing one to see how much ink they have left. A solid brass hood closes the pen, keeping the fine point safe from damage. A mechanical clock 969 The casing of this mantel clock is made of solid wood, with a handle at the top that makes it easily portable. The large white clock face at the front has numerals for each hour of a half day. A key on the side allows the inner mechanism to be wound up. Various decorative gears have been set on the outside. A brass tube runs from the top to the side of the clock, and a steam whistle sits on top of the contraption. As you wind up $WEAPON$, the clock face flies open and a small cannon extends from it.\nA cannonball surrounded by $TYPES$ flies from $WEAPON$ and impacts upon $=(target$).\n As $+(caster$) winds up $WEAPON$, the clock face flies open and a small cannon extends from it.\nA cannonball surrounded by $TYPES$ flies from $WEAPON$ and impacts upon $=(target$).\n
A mechanical tophat 970 This tophat is made from brown suede. It has light brown stitching that runs in mechanical patterns around the hood. Giving further depth to the pattern are brown leather and brass studs. A leather band is also wound around the bottom of the hood, and has small hoops that hold a key, some bullets, and a few miniature vials with an unknown liquid in them. From this band a long brown feather also elegantly points upwards. The top of your $WEAPON$ pops off and hinges to the side, as a glove set upon an extendable arm appears.\nThe glove of $WEAPON$ slaps $=(target$) in the face and $TYPES$ go flying everywhere.\n The top of $WEAPON$ of $+(caster$) pops off and hinges to the side, as a glove set upon an extendable arm appears.\nThe glove of $WEAPON$ slaps $=(target$) in the face and $TYPES$ go flying everywhere.\n
A mechanical apron 971 This light brown leather apron has seen its share of abuse through the years, filled with permanent grease stains and other dark marks. It is set with a multitude of pockets and loops that carry vials, tubes, rolls of paper, spanners, hammers, knives and other worker tools. An adjustable strap holds the apron in place around the neck, and another wraps around the body to secure it in the back. Mechanical goggles 972 These mechanical goggles have emerald lenses that protect the eyes of the wearer. A smooth black leather band which is adjustable on each side holds them firmly in place. The sides of the goggles are adorned with a compass, and two more smaller zooming lenses can be moved in front of the right eye to enhance one's vision. Around the sides of the goggles metal plating has been screwed to reinforce the construction. Whirring as you touch a button on the side of $WEAPON$, the lenses darken and become refractive.\nFocusing the light towards $=(target$), $WEAPON$ send out a ray filled with $TYPES$.\n Whirring as $+(caster$) touches a button on the side of $WEAPON$, the lenses darken and become refractive.\nFocusing the light towards $=(target$), $WEAPON$ send out a ray filled with $TYPES$.\n
