The nature totem of Night is available to some members of the Forest of Glomdoring, and is the required totem of the Shadowdancer wiccan guild. Bonding with the Spirit offers them dark abilities of the Night, as well as the power to form covens for even greater strength.

A coven is used to perform many magics of Night. To initiate, first FORM a coven. As the leader of a coven, you may invite up to 13 others who follow the path of the Night* to JOIN your coven, and REJECT will dismiss the person if you wish to remove the member. As leader you may also APPOINT someone who will take over as coven leader in your place if you are to die or otherwise leave the realms.

To see who is currently in a formed coven, you can view the MEMBERS. To end a coven, simply use DISSOLVE, or use LEAVE to exit a coven. When three or more coven members stand together, CIRCLE will have you and all other members of the coven present join hands in a circle, which enables certain spells and provides minor resistance for its members against unwanted summons. Some Night magic can only be performed in a coven or in a coven circle. To speak to all members of your coven, use COVEN <message>.

If you have the squads ability in Combat, you can use NIGHTCOVEN SQUAD to convert your coven into a squad. A coven squad earns more XP bonus than a normal squad.

  • Nightwraiths while the Night Altar is active can join the Coven but will not count for Terror Covens.

Garb

Syntax:
SHADOWDANCE GARB
Damage Modifier: variable based on skill level, max of 17

Wrap yourself in the shadows of night, and benefit from its dark protection. Not only will these shadows divert magical damage against you but also ameliorate a portion of any damage from poisons.

Penumbra

Syntax:
SHADOWDANCE PENUMBRA
Power: 5 (Master Ravenwood)

Minimum Coven Size: 3

Beauty may only be skin deep, but Mother Night enjoys the power which such superficial aspects can hold over others. Your coven may indulge their vanity under penumbra of Mother Night's power, causing members to increase their charisma and regenerate ego.

Additional Notes:
Also makes your apparent age (in HONOURS for instance) 18.

Cauldron

Syntax:

As a Shadowdancer, you should always be prepared to have shadows ready at your call. First, you must have a cauldron created to store your precious shadows, which must be gathered at night under the open sky. Releasing a shadow in your location will prevent regenerating abilities of all except followers of Mother Night or Crow.

Flight

Syntax:
SHADOWDANCE FLIGHT <distance>
Power: 1-10 (Master Ravenwood)

Take flight and disappear into the shadows when circumstances call for it. The way must be clear as you cannot travel through closed doors or out of rooms with no exits. The distance you wish to attempt to travel must be specified from 1 to 10 locations away. Power depends on how far you travel at a cost of 1 per 2 rooms.

Drink

Syntax:
SHADOWDANCE DRINK [OFF]
Power: 4 (Master Ravenwood)

You can only invoke this spell within released shadows. Once invoked you will automatically drink of the powers of darkness, which means your body will regenerate and cure itself of ailments.

Cone

Syntax:
SHADOWDANCE CONE
Minimum Coven Size: 3/1*

As the leader of a coven, you may raise a cone of power at an energy node and channel that energy directly into the Master Ravenwood.

  • Nightwraiths while the Night Altar is active only require one to cone

Scourge

Syntax:
SHADOWDANCE SCOURGE <target>

Reveal to others the true vision of Mother Night, a darkness so black that nothing can penetrate.

Additional Notes:
Causes blindness.

Gloomtide

Syntax:
SHADOWDANCE GLOOMTIDE
Minimum Coven Size: 5

You can lead your coven in a ceremony to cast the tides of gloom outward to silently neutralize coven members in the minds of those who consider the coven members as personal enemies. This power will require 3 shadows to invoke.

Additional Notes:
Removes the coven's members from everyone else's enemy list, though only people logged in at the time.

Brumetower

Syntax:
SHADOWDANCE BRUMETOWER

If a shadow has been released in the location, you can raise a brumetower, or Tower of Shadows, that prevents anyone, including you, from flying into or out of the location. It will also prevent those who seek to climb into the trees, or leave or enter the location through the branches. Only one Brumetower of yours is allowed at a time, so recasting will remove the old one.

Steal

Syntax:
SHADOWDANCE STEAL <target>

With an athame dagger or other weapon wielded, you can steal the shadow of an enemy. So long as you hold that shadow, any damage you do against that enemy will cause the shadow to attack its owner.

Lash

Syntax:
SHADOWDANCE LASH <target>

This special dance to the Mother Night will drain the mana of a target and convert it into health for yourself. More will be drained if your target's shadow is stolen.

Longnight

Syntax:
SHADOWDANCE LONGNIGHT
Power: 10 (Master Ravenwood)

Minimum Coven Size: 13
Shadows: 25

This powerful spell calls for a full coven to invoke and the coven leader's cauldron must be filled with at least 25 shadows. Upon the successful casting of this spell, the entire area where the longnight ceremony was performed will require double the cost for any power ability.

Choke

Syntax:
SHADOWDANCE CHOKE <target>
Power: 3 (Master Ravenwood)

If shadows have been released into the area, you can thicken them to choke every action on yourself and a target. The choking will continue until the caster and target are separated for a given time or time has worn off.

Additional Notes:
Those who are choked have an uncurable aeon-like delay on all actions.

Bonds

Syntax:

If shadows are gathered in your location, you can empower them to create mystic bonds that prevents many methods of magical travel.

Conclave

Syntax:
SHADOWDANCE CONCLAVE
Power: 5 (Master Ravenwood)

If you are the leader of a coven, you may call a conclave, which will call forth all coven members to you. Coven members will only arrive if they are on the same plane and continent as yourself.

Terror

Syntax:
SHADOWDANCE TERROR
Minimum Coven Size: 5

A coven may invoke Night's terror when punishment needs to be extracted from a safe distance. Depending on the phase of the Moon, coven members are able to cast the following spells on any individual who remains outdoors: STEAL, SCOURGE, and NIGHTKISS. The terror of Mother Night may only be invoked under her eye, so this ritual must be danced outdoors. The area of effect is as follows:

  • NEW MOON: Anyone in the same continent.
  • WANING, WAXING: Anyone in the local area.
  • FULL MOON: Cannot cast Terror.

Nightkiss

Syntax:
SHADOWDANCE NIGHTKISS
Power: 10 (Master Ravenwood)

Damage Modifier: 24

Mother Night will bestow her blessed kiss upon you, granting you increased intelligence and some other protections. Further, gathering shadows while wearing this kiss will cost only 1 power instead of 3. Finally, you will be able to bestow your own NIGHTKISS upon enemies, which damages them and siphons some health back to you.

For those who use weaponry, note that while blessed by Mother Night, shadows will cover all weapons you wield, increasing their statistics.

For those who fight against Mother Night's chosen, they shall find even their gaze to be deadly and cold - for what lies just beyond the eyes is as black and empty as some claim their hearts to be.
