Xyl was a Fifth Circle Elder God. He constructed an observatory high atop one of Lusternia's tallest mountains, later known as Avechna's Peak, and carefully observed the cosmos. He was the first to report the presence of the Soulless Gods as they moved towards the First World in the days leading up to the Elder Wars, and initiated the meeting of the Firsts to discuss how to protect Lusternia from the threat the Heralds of Magnora posed.
Xyl, along with Tae and Bollikin, woke up the Dragon God Dracnoris to ask him for advice in dealing with other Primal Gods. After the first battle of the Elder Wars, Xyl and the rest of the Fifth Circle studied the battleground and determined that the Soulless had survived the battle, feasting upon the divine essence of the Elders who had been defeated.
