In the year 487 CE, inhabitants of the Basin of Life began fall victim to a strange plague-like disease. Upon death, adventurers would cough up disgusting pustules, and at the same time an unusual cage appeared on Avechna's Peak. As those who had fallen ill with the plague died, the cage leeched some of their energy and grew larger. In time, a network of tendrils spread throughout the mountain peaks, and the plague worsened. The pustules expelled from the lungs of the infected grew in size and began to take root within the ground before their true nature was revealed: they were eggs, of a sort, and soon hatched into living simulacra in the guise of infected adventurers.
