Most people have some artistic ability but it takes studying the fine arts to truly become proficient. Artists first learn to craft a variety of common every day items and then go on to learn how to mix tinctures. Eventually, they are ready to create paintings and sculptures, always in demand by enchanters who can enchant them. A most useful consequence of mastering this skill is the discerning eye of a trained artist, which can see small imperfections and flaws in illusions.

You can fashion beautiful gem stone vials. Also, you can fashion ordinary glass objects from gems, like bottles.

Additional Notes:

Note that bottles use the gems commodity, not cut gems like diamond or turquoise. Vials, on the other hand, require gems cut by a jeweler.

Palette

By mixing tinctures of various types, you can create a palette of paints, which can be used for paintings or tarot cards.

Sketching

Draw quick sketches of your subject, to later use as an outline for paintings or statues. You'll need a blank sketch sheet and a piece of coal. Note the syntax for painting and sculpting from sketches is different.

StillLife

Paint still life portraits of objects or things. You'll need a blank canvas and a full palette of paints.

Exhibit

Syntax

EXHIBIT <painting>

You can place your paintings on exhibit for all to see. You may only exhibit paintings in indoor urban locations. Paintings may also be exhibited in the aether environment in aether manses.

Additional Notes:

There is no way to move or take down paintings once exhibited without destroying them, so be sure it's in the right place.

GreenTint

Mix up some forest green tincture if you have the right ingredients.

Inscription

Syntax

INSCRIBE <painting> WITH NOTHING

Add a written inscription to a painting, or remove one. The cost is 20 gold per character, or 200 to remove an existing inscription.

MasterMixer

When mixing tints, you will create two applications instead of one.

Portraits

Syntax

PAINT <target> PAINT FROM SKETCH <sketch>

Paint life-like portraits of others. You'll need a blank canvas and a full palette of paints. You can also create a painting from two sketches of your subject.

Replicate

Syntax

REPLICATE [ID]

Requires 1 blank sketch and 1 piece of coal.

You may copy a sketch in the room, in your sketchpad or in your inventory. All copies will be marked as a copy.

Masterpieces

Syntax

PAINT MASTERPIECE <title>

With a canvas upon an easel in front of you and a full palette, you can paint a masterpiece from your own mind and of your own design.

NOTE: The painting will come out as "a painting of <title>".

Upkeep

UPKEEP <PAINTING|STATUE>

If works of art are not properly kept and maintained, they will be destroyed on their own. Upkeeping will extend the decay time.

Poses

You can now capture two people who are posing together on your canvases.

Statues

Ingredients: marble 5

You must be in an outdoor urban or road environment to sculpt a statue. Your model must also be in the same location as yourself, or you must have six sketches of your model. You may also sculpt statues in aether manses.

SilverTint

Mix up a batch of shimmering silver tincture if you have the right ingredients.

GoldTint

Scenery

PAINT SCENE

You can now paint a scene on your canvas, which is the landscape and all those present, including any of their poses.

Miniatures

Ingredients: blank figurine 1

Your model must also be in the same location as yourself, or you must have three sketches of your model.

Additional Notes:

Blank figurines are made by jewelers.

Destroy

Syntax

DESTROY <PAINTING|STATUE>

Some art just shouldn't exist. You can destroy paintings and statues, though this is a time consuming process. You can salvage some marble from statues, and re-use canvases from destroyed paintings.

Additional Notes:

During the very lengthy destruction process, you can do almost nothing without interrupting it, so be sure you're prepared before you start.

Critique

Syntax

CRITIQUE HERE CRITIQUE <target|ME>

Power: 8 (Any)

Your discerning artistic sensibilities can spot flaws in even the most carefully crafted illusions.

Additional Notes:

This can be used to dispel illusions in a room or on a person. Also note that your chance to detect illusions depends on total number of lessons invested into the Arts skillset (not on any particular skill in it).
