The Void

The Void, first described in detail in the (Book of Aslarn), is a vast emptiness, devoid of even the energy that flowed through the aethers. It is a harsh place, without any physical temperature, and stretches farther than the imagination. It is anathema to existence itself and is difficult to travel through, as those with form and spirit rebel against being in a place where they do not belong.
There are beings that inhabit the Void, surprisingly enough; they are the Abominations, the failed creations of Dynara and the manifestation of the Void itself. Some Abominations are actually half-formed beings who traveled into the Void and become undone and reformed in their insanity.
History
- Xyl built an observatory to inspect the Void and thereby located the Heralds of Magnora.
- The Elder Gods watched 365 members of the First Circle travel the Void on their mission of diplomacy to meet with the Heralds.
- The second use of the Daath Sequence occurred in the Void when the Elder Gods used it against the Soulless Gods.
- The Fifth Circle created a portal deep inside Mount Dynara to exile the Twelve Traitors into the Void after their sentencing by the sixth Triumvirate. (Book of Igaso)
- To escape the encroaching Soulless Gods and search for Magnora & Dynara, most of the remaining Elder Gods used the same portal they had used when exiling the Traitors. (The irony was not lost on them.)
- Roark set up a beacon to call them back when the Soulless threat had diminished.
- After the Coming of Estarra, the Elder Gods who wandered the Void have begun to return, many drawn by Roark's beacon.
Modern Applications
- The practitioners of High magic speak of the void as Ain Soph, the origin of all the other spheres they study.
- The Laboratory of the Void at the Matrix Institute studies the applications of void energy. Their experiments led to the invention of void blasters.
