Harmonics was developed by the Matrix Institute after studying the cosmic plane of the Continuum. The Continuum is a 'dead' divine creche, meaning that whatever divine beings were born there have long since grown up and departed (as opposed to the cosmic planes with half-formed where the divine beings never fully developed--or as opposed to the cosmic plane of the Vortex where the divine beings had never formed). Researchers from the Matrix Institute have used the abandoned crystal creches to tap into the harmonic energies of the Continuum. They've also learned to harness these energies into gemstones. While this has given them very powerful abilities, it also ends up being very expensive as the Institute constantly looks to fill their supply of gemstones. Historically, this has led them to many conflicts (especially with dwarves) as the Institute believed that all gemstones should come to them for the greater good.

With permission from a guild leader, you are able to harvest charged gemstones upon the Continuum Plane so long as you know the corresponding gem skill. For example, if you know the skill of Turquoise, you can harvest charged turquoise from the Turquoise Sphere of Flux Transmutation.

The CRYSTALPLEX command will show you all gems that are currently spinning around you. Some gems can be activated or deactivated. Most gems require to be targeted after they are spun. While active, gems will slowly lose their charge until they are entirely consumed.

Note you can optionally activate or deactivate ALL gems at once, if you have more than one gem in play.

You can mask the gems around you to prevent other people from casually seeing them around you.

WARNING: If you are afflicted by paranoia, your gems will turn against you.

OUTGEMRIFT (OGR) [<amount>|ALL] <item> INVGEMRIFT -or- IGR

Your affinity to charged gemstones will allow you to store them in an extraplanar rift that only you can access. The gem rift holds gemstones harvested on the Continuum plane.

INGEMRIFT (INGR) puts a given number of a single type of gem (or all by default) into the GemRift. If no amount is given, then the first item found will be used (or the entire first group, if the first item is a grouping item).

OUTGEMRIFT (OGR) takes a given number of a single type of gem (or all by default) out of the GemRift. If no amount is specified, then the default is to take out only one gem.

INVGEMRIFT (or IGR) peeks into the GemRift to take a quick inventory of what is stored there.

The twelve spheres of continuum are the detritus of the Elder Gods that were born there. When these Elder Gods shed their half-formed existence, the part of their being that was not compatible with their new divine forms was shed and replaced with aspects of their divinity. This shed essence formed the gem spheres that still exist on Continuum today. These spheres form a natural bridge between the harmonic vibrations of continuum and the rest of reality. They are natural conductors of the primal energies of the cosmos which are caught and turned into vibrations by the plane of continuum. The Matrix Research Institute uses the spheres in the most basic of ways: by storing vibrations of the primal energies within crystals.

At this point in the study of harmonics, the researcher chooses to specialize in the utilization and manipulation of one of these primal energies: arcane, aetheric, temporal, dimensional, or domotheon. The doctoral thesis culminates in the creation of a tool within the confines of the appropriate department.

You can create a crystal weapon (or tool) from either turquoise, jade, garnet, beryl, opal, onyx, bloodstone, amethyst or emerald. You'll need 10 of the type of gem you choose. So long as the tool is in your inventory, any crystal of the same type will have increased charges and improved effects when spun. These tools must be created in the appropriate laboratory.

This department is devoted to the study of arcane or magical energies. Most Arcana Researchers posit that magical energies arise through the willpower of an individual made manifest or perhaps sometimes the energies arise from subverting the will of others. Arcane energy is the energy that is most frequently used by mortals. Wands that harness these energies may be created in this laboratory.

OBSERVATORY OF AETHEREAL ASTROPHYSICS Weapon/Tool: amplifier Energies of the deep aether energies also include the astrological energies. Historically, in the early days of the Holy Celestine Empire, this section of the Institute was focused mainly on the astrological energies. However, it was Emperor Ladantine's interest in the hypothetical (at that time) aethereal space that the study of Aethereal Astrophysics was borne and the the Institute was then considered the leading experts in the field. Aethereal energy is the canvas on which reality is painted. In its purest form, it forms what is best known as the aetherways. Aetheric amplifiers can be created in the Observatory.

LABORATORY OF METAPLANAR AND TRANSDIMENSIONAL PHYSICS Weapon/Tool: modulator This department is devoted to the study of planar energies and dimensional shifts. LABORATORY OF THE NATURAL SCIENCES AND HIGHER ENERGIES Weapon/Tool: scalpel

This was historically the smallest department of the Institute, being that the life sciences were overshadowed by considerable advances made in the field by the Illuminati, and Hallifax in general considered this the least reputable study for researchers at the Institute (indeed, the small department attracted only a few who were focused only on medical research). However, in modern times, the field was expanded to include the higher, domotheon energies (sometimes called divine or spiritual energies) which could not only be used for healing purposes but also could be availed upon for a wide range of purposes. LABORATORY OF THE VOID Weapon/Tool: blaster

There is rumoured to be a highly secret military/weaponry research arm of the Institute that studies void energy, which is the null energy of reality. It is sometimes referred to as the silent vibration. The void is everywhere and nowhere at once, and in its pure vibration is incredibly unstable and destructive. Blasters can be made here.

Sapphire

The sapphire vibration can pierce the mental state of any person, which can be a powerful weapon against its target. It will randomly protect from or afflict spiritual afflictions


Shockstone

Syntax

Create a shockstone which will release a mental blast at a victim that will knock that person off his or her mental equilibrium.

Note that the time it takes to concentrate and recover from this loss of mental equilibrium increases with the amount of timewarp afflicts the individual.


Ruby

Your ruby can protect or weaken the temporal auras around the target.


Diamond

The strong natural crystalline structure of diamonds will bind or loosen your target's bodyto the ground, increasing or decreasing resistance to forcible movement.


Heartstone

You can create a heartstone of a person, but he or she must willingly agree to accept it (and cannot be forced to do so). Once accepted, the heartstone will merge with the person's heart and stay there for one year. YOU CANNOT SPIN A HEARTSTONE OF YOURSELF.

HEARTSTONE RESURRECT <target>

Once a heartstone has been placed within another, you can use it to resurrect that person. Though you can resurrect remotely and do not need a body to do so, note that you will be transported to your target's ghost. Alternatively, you can break the heartstone, killing that person immediately (thus, there needs to be a high amount of trust to allow another to hold one's heart in your hand).


Shatterplex

For a period of one minute, you can interfere with your targets healing auras and make their timewarp curing only half effective for the period of time.

As the auras reform, the target will cure all the timewarp they have when it ends.


AcceleratorGem

Gems = All except Ruby

Creating an acceleratorgem will allow you to place each type of Harmonics crystal in your crystalplex. Further, if spun when you already have crystals in your crystalplex, the charges on those gems will be refreshed.


Spire

Power: 10 (Matrix)

The ultimate crystalspin, you can take your twelve gems and have them form a intricate pattern around the target that will cause them to form a crystalline spire in 5 secs. This will last for 10 seconds. Anyone who attempts to attack the spire will find themselves turned into a spire as well.

All spires will cure at the same time.
