The Era is said to have begun in earnest when ice devils, commanded by the Forsaken, attacked the Basin and encased the nodes on the Astral Plane in ice. An astronomical Syzygy was coming and Raezon sought to harness its power with the construction of the Obsidian Tower. Using the tower, Raezon and the mortals were able to break the ice devils' hold on the astrospheres and opening a portal to an icy plain with a marble tower. The portal only lasted long enough for Jeremiah to come through. Jeremiah had survived the cold by finding the Hearthstone of Il'vania. (Events #228)
