A Vernal Ascendant is one who was raised to Ascendance through a Nexus of Power. This is in contrast to True Ascendants, who drew their power from the Nine Seals.
Maintaining a Vernal Ascendant drains power from the nexus they are connected to. Should the nexus's keepers choose to descend their champion, the individual becomes a Vernal Demigod forevermore.
