The Staff of Ascension is an artifact of sublime power that could be used to recharge the Nine Seals and keep the Almighty Kethuru imprisoned amidst the Astral Plane. When used, the divine energy is too much for a mere mortal to withstand and they are generally consumed, used as a sacrifice to keep the Soulless locked away for another generation.
Several mortals throughout history have wielded the Staff of Ascension:
- Soll (168 CE) to become Ayridion, the White Flame; he later lost His divinity and became Ilyarin, first of the True Ascendants
- Sojiro (199 CE) to become Shuyin
- Xiel (229 CE) to become Viynain
- Ceren (257 CE) to become Fillin
- Esano (288 CE) to become Akyaevin
- Xenthos (318 CE) to become Xynthin
- Sidd (348 CE) to become Synkarin
- Morkarion (377 CE) to become Karlach
