With few exceptions, each of the mortal races of Lusternia carry a shard of divinity in them, having descended from the Elder Gods. During the Elder Wars, rather than be consumed by the Soulless Gods, several Elder Gods splintered their bodies and souls. These fragments became the mortal races. Though not all Elder Gods chose this path nor all mortal races came to be in this manner, it remains true that all Lusternians believe that within each of them is contained the fragment of a god. Thus it is said that the god-fragment within can potentially evolve through the cycles of birth and rebirth until perfection is achieved and the fragment is made whole, becoming a divine in its own right. Only once a mortal passes through the Portal of Fate is this potential unlocked.

Special Races

A handful of races are not available to at character creation and must be unlocked later through other means.

  • Changeling - Less of a (proper, in-character) race and more of a special (slightly out-of-character) state: a way to hide what race the cameo's user is currently set to.
Toggleable by wearing or removing the Changeling Cameo artifact (See ASHOP 13).
Unlocked via an exctremely smelly flobbergobble mushroom (See ASHOP 48)
Unlocked via a peculiar flobbergobble mushroom (See ASHOP 49)
  • Nagasith - Snake-like planes travellers.
Unlocked through assembling their racial curio set.
  • Sileni - Six-fingered, goat-legged musicians.
Unlocked through assembling their racial curio set.
Unlocked through being a Hartstone druid and adopting the Wildewood specialization in Nature.
Unlocked through being a Blacktalon druid and adopting the Wyrdenwood specialization in Nature.

Non-playable Races

Non-playable Races are races of mortal shards splintered from an Elder God that are not playable at the moment. This is largely an out-of-character category (in-character they're just other folks). The membership in also may change in time: gnomes and finks weren't playable for a long time.

CHRONICLER SPECULATION: perhaps they are incompatible with the Portal of Fate.
