They are very different in appearance compared to other races of the Basin. Their pale skin ranges from shades of grey and purple, and they are often described as being serpentlike. They also have a sternal mouth upon their bodies, and within this mouth is another thing unique to Illithoid: a sentient 'Inner Worm' that resides within the body of each and every illithoid and feeds upon psychic energies. Illithoids that are not hybridized with humans also appear to lack hair.
