By training your beast to swim, you can ford across rivers and other watery areas upon your steed. As long as you remain on your steed, you will not be in danger of drowning.


Balancing

While your beast is trained to balance, it will be difficult to move, thus making you difficult to move (and thus hard to knock you off while mounted).


Battle

You can train any beast to attack, and its damage is dependent on its level. Note that beasts will only attack upon command.

If you have a beast out of a stable, you can whistle and call it to you.

Only works from within the same plane.


Armour

By hardening the hide of your beast, it will absorb damage.


Trader

Syntax
BEAST TRADE TO <player>

Trade your beast to another, transferring its loyalty. Make sure you get a good price!

Additional Notes:
You can also list your beast for sale at your city or commune stables. STABLE SELL <beast> <price> to set your beast for sale, or STABLE SELL <beast> STOP to remove it from sale.


Diving

You can train your beast to dive into the depths of the ocean.


StableMaster

Syntax
BEAST DISMISS FEED

BEAST SUMMON <beast>

You can dismiss your beast, sending it back to its stable. Your bond is so strong that the beast need not be in your presence in order to dismiss. You may also summon a beast from its stable, though this may take a little time before the beast can find you.

If you dismiss a beast with the 'feed' option, it will feed out of its feedbag while it is in the stable.

Additional Notes:
When you can't whistle your beast, you can always dismiss it (even if it's not nearby) and then summon it again, though this takes a while.


Regeneration

For Training:
  • Syntax: BEAST TRAIN REGENERATE [HEALTH|MANA|EGO]
  • Type: Spirit
  • Trains: 40 (each type)

By speeding up different parts of a beast's metabolism, you can also speed up the regeneration of their health, mana, or ego.


Trotting

For Training:
  • Syntax: BEAST TRAIN TROT
  • Prerequisite: mount
  • Type: Body
  • Trains: 30

This is an automatic ability for a beast trained to trot. You will be able to spur your beast into a trot, so that when you are mounted you can move further before worrying about undue haste.


Aggressive

For Training:
  • Syntax: BEAST TRAIN AGGRESSIVE
  • Prerequisite: battle
  • Type: Body
  • Trains: 120

You can increase the damage of battle beasts by increasing its aggressive nature.


Jumping

Use your beast to jump over obstructions.


MinorBreath

Your skills in riding mounted beasts have improved to the extent where you are capable of the following skills: Vaulting
Instead of mounting a beast trained in riding, you can vault onto it, cutting your balance time by two-thirds.
Getting
Your ease of being upon your steed is so great that you can easily scoop up items that lay on the ground while still mounted.

Your bond with your loyal beasts are so great that you can channel your own health, mana, or ego into your beasts. Note that this uses a beast action, as though you ordered them.


Burrowing

Healing

By training your beast to blend in with the surroundings like a chameleon, you may order the beast to disappear from cursory sight at will.


Kicking

Allows you to buck someone into an adjacent room, assuming they are not mounted, prone, or have defenses that prevent you from moving them.

These cure approximately the same afflictions as the corresponding FOCUS skills in Discipline.


Bodyguard

If you have this skill, your beast will automatically attempt to protect you from attacks. This is only effective against denizens (i.e., not players).


Poison

By having your beast grow special venom sacs, your beast can drink poisons and then spit them out. You must first allow your beast to sip from a vial of poison to fill its venom sac. For every 5 applications in a vial, your beast will be able to spit once. Your beast's venom sac cannot hold more than 10 uses nor can it hold more than one type of poison.


Spellcasting

Beastmaster

Power: 10 (any) to learn, 3 (any) to imbue

You can master one beastmaster skill and be able to temporarily imbue it in one of your beasts. The skill will last one hour and you may imbue three times per month. Typing BEASTMASTER on its own will show you whether you can train a beast this month, or how long a beast has left before it will forget the Beastmaster skill.

    • If it runs out, the stable won't let your beast die, but it will levy a fine equal to twice the normal fee. (CHANGELOG 3036)
    • If he starves, he'll lose levels and eventually die permanently.
  • Take your beast out with you while you hunt or influence, so he can gain levels.
    • Beasts can be up to level 12.
    • If a beast dies, it will lose a level, return to its enrolled stable, and be unavailable for a while.
    • A beast of level 1 that dies is permanently dead and gone.
    • Beast levels will increase how much damage it can take, and how much it does in battle.
    • Beast levels have nothing to do with training, feeds, or reagents.
  • Choose the abilities to give your beast.
    • You can only train abilities you yourself know in Beastmastery.
    • Even if a beast already has an ability (innately or because someone else taught it), you can't use it if you don't have the skill.
    • Each ability requires a certain number of Trains of either Body, Mind, or Spirit.
    • Some abilities also have other abilities as prerequisites.
    • A beast can have only 600 total Trains.
    • You will divvy up the 600 between Body, Mind, and Spirit by feeding the beast with the appropriate feeds, then applying the corresponding reagents.
    • The innate abilities a particular kind of beast comes with don't count against the 600 trains and don't have to be trained at all.
    • If you make a mistake and give it too much Body, Mind, or Spirit, so you will run out of the 600 trains before you get all you need for other abilities, you can't get it back except by starting over using wackodoru reagent.
    • Building the beast's Body, Mind, and Spirit also determines how much Health, Mana, and Ego it will have.
    • Some abilities use Mana or Ego, so as you choose abilities, be sure your beast has enough Mana or Ego to power them, and enough Body to survive long enough to use them.
  • Feed your beast to build its strength during its first year
    • BEAST FILL FEEDBAG WITH <feed> to feed your beast.
    • meatfeed and oatfeed will increase your beast's Body (and thus Health).
    • fishfeed and vegfeed will increase your beast's Mind (and thus Mana).
    • eggfeed and fruitfeed will increase your beast's Spirit (and thus Ego).
    • Different feeds can also affect the appearance it will get when it is a year old.
    • If you don't like the appearance you get, zimoru reagent will re-randomize it.
  • Apply reagents to build up your beast's Trains.
    • Apply bodoru to build Body Trains.
    • Apply mindoru to build Mind Trains.
    • Apply suporu to build Spirit Trains.
    • You can only apply a reagent after the beast has eaten enough of the corresponding feed, usually two.
    • STABLE HOUSE <beast> FEED to keep your beast eating from its feedbag while in the stable to speed up this process. Otherwise, it'll eat generic stuff the stable provides which keeps it alive but doesn't add Body, Mind, or Spirit, or prepare it to receive reagents.
  • Train your beast with abilities.
    • BEAST TRAIN <ability> to train an ability.
    • You must have the available and unused trains to do this.
  • Be sure to keep your beast in the stable when you're offline so it won't be killed or starve to death.
